MEAN MOMMY!

After "forcing" someone to eat dinner...

Mommy:  "Why are you crying?"

Daniel:  "You hurt my feelings!"

Mommy: "You need to eat to live and grow."

Daniel:  "But you are ruining my life!!!"

2nd Annual White House Place Primary Center Get Together

No school is perfect, but some schools are just more special than others. White House Place Primary Center was where I learned to teach.  I spent 11 years there learning and teaching PK-2nd grade students. White House Place was where I become a grant writer, a muralist, a workshop presenter, a demo teacher, a master teacher, a mentor, and National Board Certified. It was also the place where I met some of the most incredible, committed, dedicated, and collaborative educators. The Early Literacy Club (ELC) was formed because we wanted, needed, to collaborate to be better educators for our students. We were awarded grants, recognized in publications, and cited in a teacher research book. But the best thing about working at White House Place were the friendships made.  How cool is it to get to work with people you admire as educators and also call your friends. It was pretty cool.  I am glad we get to reconnect, if only once a year.

The sad news is that they (LAUSD) are planning to tear the school down at the end of next school year. It's going to be tough to say goodbye. We need to go back and celebrate one more time before it's gone.

Beautiful Emma and her beautiful mommy...
This is where they seat you after you wait for over an hour.
Hey it's Daniel's (JB, HSM) Posse, Natalie and Alexandra!
What an amazing group of educators and friends!  How lucky am I?

Happy 1st Birthday Molly!

Meet Molly Mac...
"How cute am I?"
"Mommy and Daddy made me wear this fancy, girlie hat.  I wonder if they will wear fancy hats for their birthdays?"

"Maybe, just maybe I will get my first taste of real cake! SUGAR!"

What does it take for a 7 year old boy to attend a 1 year old's birthday party without complaining? A ticket to Clone Wars, a balloon, and a small bottle of Coke.

How Tough is an iPOD Shuffle?

Pretty darn tough!
Try washing a brand new, red, ipod shuffle in the washing machine with your sheets one night because someone put it under a pillow and did not tell anyone... and then turn it on the next day.  What happens?  You will hear the Jonas Brothers singing their new CD! Believe it!

Look Who Turned the Big 4-0!

What's that on your head Uncle Wayne?

Ooooooooo, steak, shrimp, scallops, and chicken too!

THINGS I LEARNED ON A SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL...

  • You actually need a ticket to get in.
  • If you go to Office Max, they will let you download and print out the tickets that you forgot to print out 2 weeks ago.
  • Don't confuse the lady at Phillipe's by saying "Coke, not Pepsi," or she will forget the $2.75 chili you ordered, but really didn't need.
  • Singing songs from Les Mis should really be left to the professionals on stage and not the ladies sitting behind you.
  • Children under the age of 3 really won't like sitting in the dark listening to music that is not played on Radio Disney.
  • Eponine has the best songs.
  • Remember the second tunnel, 3rd lane, Route 655 to Pasadena.
  • The Hollywood Bowl is the 2nd best place to be on a summer evening.
*Thanks Brian and take care of the ticker!

Reason Why I am on MySpace and Facebook

Tonight I finally checked the MySpace page I set up last year after Kathleen told me she found lost classmates from my class over 14 years ago on MySpace.  Guess what? A student from my very first year of teaching left a message for me! He is 30 years old now and a UCLA graduate. Wow! How cool is that?  I remember taking him and his sister to the zoo and he still has a picture of it. It's great to hear from former students, it really is!

A few more fun tidbits:
If you go to Costco and look on the cover of the new BrainQuest Workbooks (PK-edition) you may get a surprise!

My New Teacher Hints will be published in 2 installments this week and next on Teacher Magazine online. Thanks to all those that contributed! My nieces helped me edit it!
