WITNESSING HISTORY...

I am excited.
It's going to be a tough road, but there is hope and that's all you can really ask for isn't it. I am not sure why this has been such an emotional week, I think it has a lot to do with the past. All the struggles and courage of those who came before us. We have been reading and discussing the life and times of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. this week. Every time I introduce my students to this man, I admire him even more.  I have faced racism and prejudices, but nothing like what he and others had to endure. The courage and strength, and the tremendous loss... all for the greater good. How can you not be in awe of that.  So today as my students and I witness history, I can't help but remember how we got here.  It was a great day.

On a more selfish note, I am so glad to have an articulate and intelligent president represent us... and lets hope his SOE does his job... I am still bitter about that appointment!

Watchin' history...
The wonderful CAAM photo exhibit...
We were thrilled to find MLK III in the crowd...
Different versions of Dr. King!

EATING AROUND THE WORLD...

How much can one person really eat in one day?
Well I started off my morning with a lovely Mexican breakfast with my old friends from White House Place Patty and Nat. We have our children enrolled in the CSULA Saturday classes, so that frees up 2.5 hours each Saturday... yay! I should have been at the gym... I ended up have chorizo con huevos.

It only got worse from there!
Lunch was at Robin's, my favorite BBQ joint.
Here is an assortment of BBQ sauce!
The Rib Tip Plate!
Potato skins with tri-tip!
Finish up with a Death by Chocolate Cake!
Uncle Waynie, PoPo, and Aunt Vickie...
The boy that would rather play Harry Potter games then eat...
A close up of death...(by chocolate)
Why end at lunch when there's dinner?
Nan bread with spicy spreads!
Indian feast... followed by 21 Choices yogurt!
"It's almost non fat!" - Romy
Yes, but do we really need to stuff ourselves?
How long will I have to work out this year just to get rid of the one day birthday feast?
I also found out that Michelle Obama and I share the same birthday... except she is a year younger than me! Ugh!

Thanks everyone for making the day extra special and fatty!

THEN AND NOW PART 2

I recently learned how to scan old photos and it's been a lot of fun to look back on my years of teaching and the students that have made my life so amazingly rich and full of joy! I spent last night with four of those special students and their families. Enjoy!

Graduation Night... one of many.
Raul and Steve are the boys in the picture.
Here are Steve and Raul as 21 year old men!
Teaching multiage was the most wonderful experience!
I was Kathleen (left, bottom row) and Shirley Jean's
(right, bottom row) teacher for over 4 years!
 - PK to 2nd Grade
Look at what beautiful, young,
women they are now!
At Shirley Jean's 18th!
I was at Kathleen's 15th as well!
Lucky, lucky me!

HAPPY 18TH BIRTHDAY SHIRLEY JEAN

THEN...
NOW...
I was one of Shirley Jean's 18 candles tonight.
Happy Birthday to a wonderful, talented, and kind young lady!
It's good to be a teacher... especially when
you get to watch your students grow up into such
amazing young adults!
