Random Thoughts on a Wednesday Night...

... while listening to the American Idol elimination show (I like that rock singer guy, not the two pretty boys) and trying to finish up a grant that we started yesterday and is due tomorrow (nothing like procrastination).

So we are driving to Hollywood to catch the sing-a-long version of The Little Mermaid and Daniel reads a billboard. The good thing is that he can read the billboard. The bad thing is that he can read the billboard...

D:  "Mommy, that says you suck.

M:  "Yes, that does say that."

D:  "What does you suck mean?"

M:  "Well it means you are very bad at something. It's a poster for a movie about a boy who is mad at his girlfriend because she doesn't like him anymore, so he says bad things about her.  That's not very nice is it?"

D: "No."

M:  "And you are not going to do that when you are a grown up. You are going to be a nice man."

D: "Yes, I know that."

M:  "You know, they really shouldn't put mean things on billboards...  Are you excited about The Little Mermaid?"

D: "Yes."

End of conversation about the billboard for Losing Sarah Marshall.

Miko, with Flat Holly, Alex, and Daniel in front of the poster for the Broadway show we actually saw on Broadway last month, The Little Mermaid.
"I am only going to watch. I am not going to sing." -Daniel before the show.
Mommy is ready to sing with the Little Mermaid and actually remembers the release of the movie!

NOT ANOTHER PICTURE SPOT...
DO I NOT HAVE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL STUDENTS IN THE WORLD?

I WILL NEVER HAVE ONE OF THOSE QUIET, OBEDIENT, HIGHLY STRUCTURED KINDERGARTEN CLASSROOMS, AND THAT'S OKAY RIGHT?
WHO NEEDS QUIET,
WHEN YOU CAN HAVE 20 CHILDREN SINGING HAPPILY WHILE THEY WORK?

Show, Not Tell... (Why I Love Student-Led Conferences)

Here's what it can look like in a kindergarten classroom Miss Bratton!
(Special thanks to Mrs. K.)

STATIONS!
First We Practice...
Kinder Kids practice... reading poetry for parents,
showing and explaining bubble maps,
self assessing their writing,

using sounds and making words,
Rehearsing a math task,

working at the Science Station,
demonstrating sight word assessment at the Reading Station,

Time to show our parents what we know!

I get to walk around observing,
answering questions, and offering insights!
